FDU Alumnus Matt Koenig ’06 Invests in Downtown Chatham and Future Opportunities

For Fairleigh Dickinson University alumnus Matt Koenig ’06 (Flor), success is about more than building properties. It is about building community.

Koenig, an accounting graduate and member of a family long connected to FDU philanthropy through Neil and Nancy Koenig, recently celebrated the opening of 246 Main Street in Chatham Borough, a mixed-use redevelopment project that is already reshaping the downtown landscape.

The four-story building, now the tallest on Main Street, combines modern residential living with vibrant commercial space designed to contribute to the continued growth of the Chatham community. The development includes 18 apartments, retail storefronts, EV charging stations and thoughtfully designed architectural details that honor the character of the original early-1900s structure that once occupied the site.

“This has been a long time in the making,” said Chatham Borough Mayor Carolyn Dempsey during the project’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. “The result is a beautiful addition to our downtown.”

For Koenig, the project reflects both entrepreneurial vision and persistence. The building was completed in just 18 months and has already attracted residents ranging from downsizing longtime Chatham homeowners to retirees seeking to remain close to family.

While Matt leads development projects that strengthen local communities, his wife, Anne Koenig, is equally passionate about investing in people and professional growth. In her role in human resources at a major technology company, Anne works closely with early-career professionals. Together, the couple shares a strong belief in creating opportunities for the next generation, a value that aligns closely with Fairleigh Dickinson University’s commitment to career readiness, mentorship and student success. The Koenigs see initiatives that connect students with professional development opportunities as essential investments in future leaders.

The family’s longstanding connection to FDU philanthropy continues to reflect those values. Through both community leadership and support for educational opportunity, the Koenigs exemplify how alumni can make an impact far beyond campus.
