About the Golf Outing
Event Details: The FDU Sport Management Inaugural Golf Outing serves as a fundraising event to support our Sport Management program. Your participation and support will help us invest in our students by enhancing their learning experiences and professional development.
The beauty of this event is that it is organized by our very own students through an experiential learning course designed by Dr. Matt Hawzen. This course charges students with one collective mission for the semester: Organize and deliver a wonderful golf outing for guests, families, community members, alumni, and other supporters of FDU. Throughout the course, students gain opportunities to learn through hands-on work while leading the project in ways that will help them achieve their own career goals and aspirations.
Not a golfer? Not a problem. Please join us for breakfast or lunch when the golfers are finished with the round. You can also show your support for the Sport Management program and our students through our sponsorship opportunities.

About the Sport Event Management Course (SPAD 3016)
This class is designed to provide future sport management professionals with theoretical and practical knowledge related to sport event management. Through lectures, in-class assignments, discussions, and experiential learning, students will apply what they have learned to professional sport management practice by organizing, promoting, and executing a live sport event. Students will also critically reflect on the practices and issues involved in producing a successful sporting event in U.S. society.
Recap of 2024 Outing
The inaugural Sport Management Golf Outing, held on April 24, 2024, was a tremendous success! We welcomed 63 golfers and partnered with 10 generous sponsors, raising nearly $5,000 in donations to support the Sport Management program at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
A standout moment from the course was honoring Dominic Acquillio as the recipient of the first-ever Kristin Durning Top Salesperson Award. His dedication and hard work exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit and professionalism that the course inspires in our students.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Students called the class “the best they’ve ever had,” with many sharing how much they appreciated the hands-on learning experience. Parents, who joined us on the golf course, were equally impressed, praising the course as “an amazing educational opportunity” and a model for experiential learning in action. Beyond the fundraising success, the outing provided invaluable professional development for our students. They gained real-world experience in event planning, sales, and teamwork while bringing the FDU community together for a day of camaraderie and celebration.
Building on the momentum of last year’s outing, we are excited to make this year’s event even more memorable. Whether you’re a golfer, sponsor, or supporter, your participation helps us continue to enhance student learning experiences and prepare the next generation of sport management professionals.
Hope you can join us on April 28, 2025, and be part of this growing tradition!
