The Power of Story:
A Conversation with Nicole Melleby '16

“Stories are the one sure way I know to touch the heart and change the world,” wrote acclaimed author Dorothy Allison. FDU MFA alumna and award-winning author of novels for young adults and children, Nicole Melleby has been recognized for her poignant and compelling storytelling. In this conversation, Melleby will address issues of LGBTQ, depression, anxiety and mental illness in her books, In her Role of Brie Hutchins, Hurricane Season and the soon to be released, How to Become a Planet (Spring 2021). Dr. René Steinke, Director of the Low-residency MFA in Creative Writing, joins Melleby for an insightful conversation on how literature can help young minds navigate difficult and personal topics.
