Marta Tellado, President and Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Reports, is known as a transformational leader with a talent for innovation, a passion for public service, and a distinguished portfolio of accomplishments in mission driven organizations. In a conversation with four-time Emmy award winning journalist, Brenda Blackmon, Tellado will share insight into her role at Consumer Reports, and how it came to be that a 3-year old who arrived in the U.S. from Cuba would become President and CEO of one of the most trusted and relied upon non-profit organizations in America.

Wine Tasting Event: Explore Sonoma,
California's Most Diverse & Exciting Region

You won't need your suitcases for this trip to Sonoma, CA for our virtual wine tasting. George Staikos, certified sommelier, FDU faculty member, and mastermind behind The Educated Grape, will guide us through the world-renown winemaking region of Sonoma, highlighting the area's many unique attributes, from its diverse subregions and coastal influences, to the great grape varietals for which it is known. George has carefully selected a list of recommended wines, that you can purchase at your local wine merchant or online to help make you a more knowledgeable consumer. Join us on Zoom for a fun, interactive and educational experience as we sip our way through the vineyards of Sonoma.

An Evening with Laverne Cox

A virtual roundtable with four-time Emmy nominated actress and Emmy award-winning producer conducted by FDU students and moderated by professor and playwright Stacie Lents.

Emmy Award-winning actress Laverne Cox drives transgender awareness by encouraging others to move beyond gender expectations and embrace all individuals for their unique selves. As Sophia Burset, an incarcerated African American transgender woman on Orange is the New Black, Laverne is the first trans woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream scripted television show. Along with several acting awards, Laverne was notably the first trans woman to appear on the cover of TIME magazine. Laverne is also seen the Netflix documentary, Disclosure, a breakdown of transgender depictions in film and television which was released in June of 2020. An accomplished producer and celebrated equal rights advocate, she continues to drive positive change on a global scale by sharing her views on race, class, and gender.
